But for most people landing in Mallorca, the first few hours go the same way: collect the hire car, drive to the villa, realise there's no coffee, no milk, nothing for breakfast, and head straight back out to find a supermarket. The holiday starts properly a day later than it should.

Why arrival day is harder in Mallorca than people expect
A few things specific to Mallorca catch first-time visitors out.
Most holiday rentals are not in towns. Villas and fincas sit in the countryside, in the hills behind the coast, or down long lanes outside small villages, and even resort apartments can be a walk from a proper shop. The nearest proper supermarket can be a fifteen or twenty minute drive, and it is rarely in the direction you want to go after a flight.
Spanish supermarket hours are not UK or US hours. Many smaller shops still close for a few hours in the afternoon, and most are shut on Sundays. If you land on a Sunday afternoon, which a lot of Saturday-to-Saturday and Sunday changeover guests do, your options narrow quickly.
Peak season makes everything busier. In July and August the roads, the car parks and the supermarket queues are all fuller. The half-hour supermarket trip you planned can easily eat the whole first afternoon.
None of this is a reason not to come. It is just the reason that sorting food before you arrive makes more difference in Mallorca than it might somewhere more built-up.
Your options for stocking a villa before arrival
There are four realistic ways to have food and essentials ready when you check in. Each suits a different kind of traveller.
Order from a Spanish supermarket online. Mercadona, Eroski, El Corte Inglés and Alcampo all deliver across Mallorca. It is the cheapest route if you are comfortable with Spanish-language websites and can guarantee someone is at the villa for the two to three hour delivery window. Slots get tight in summer, so book early.
Ask your host or property manager. Many include a small welcome pack, and some will arrange a full shop for a fee. Quality varies a lot, so ask exactly what is included and whether it arrives before check-in.
Use a local concierge or grocery service. These will shop a full custom list for you. Good for very specific requirements, but usually the most expensive option and not every service covers every part of the island.
