Getting Groceries to Your Villa in Calvià and Andratx

The southwest has supermarkets close to most of the resorts, but the hillside villas and apartments around Bendinat, Camp de Mar and Port d'Andratx still mean a drive, and arrival day is when nobody wants to do it. This is a quick guide to where the shops are around Santa Ponsa, Palmanova, Portals and Andratx, when they open, and how to skip the first-day run by having a pack waiting at the villa.

Santa Ponsa, Palmanova and Peguera

Santa Ponsa has a large Eroski up from the roundabout by the bus station, plus a Mercadona and a Carrefour, so the resort is well covered, though there is no Lidl in town and the nearest is in Palmanova. Palmanova itself has that Lidl, a large Mercadona right by the bus stop at Son Caliu, and an Aldi, which is useful because it is one of the few that opens on Sundays. Peguera, on the road towards Camp de Mar, has a Mercadona on the hill and a Casa Pepe by the roundabout.

Local tip: the small seafront shops in the resorts are convenient but price steeply for it. For a weekly shop, the Mercadona in Palmanova or the big Eroski in Santa Ponsa is far better value.

Portals, Bendinat and the Palma side

If your villa is on the Palma side around Portals Nous or Bendinat, there are Eroski and Mercadona options along the Andratx road, and you are also within easy reach of the larger shops on the edge of Palma. This stretch is the best served in the whole southwest, so a full shop is rarely more than a few minutes away.

Camp de Mar and Port d'Andratx

Camp de Mar is a small, sheltered bay with only a few local shops, so for a proper trolley you drive the few minutes to Peguera or up to Andratx. Port d'Andratx has an Eroski down by the port, and Andratx town, just inland, has a Mercadona and an Eroski. The villas above the port have some of the best views on the island and also some of the steepest lanes, which is the part that makes an arrival-day shop a chore.

Local tip: if you are heading to Camp de Mar or Port d'Andratx from the airport, it is worth stopping at the big shops in Santa Ponsa or Peguera on the way, rather than arriving and then driving back out.

Opening hours and Sundays

The bigger supermarkets here open Monday to Saturday from around 9am into the evening, with Sunday mornings until about 2pm common in the season. Palmanova is one of the more reliable spots on a Sunday, with the Aldi there among the few that open, while many shops elsewhere close on Sundays. Hours shift between high season and the quieter months, so check your nearest branch if you are arriving on a Sunday.
